Blogging From A to Z April Challenge

I'm doing it again! After much thought, I decided I had a lot of fun last year doing the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge, even though it can be more of a challenge than you imagine, its an excellent thing to do to keep yourself writing everyday, and its a great excuse to visit lots of blogs and make new friends.

The A to Z Challenge is the brainchild of Arlee Bird the idea is you write a post to match the letter of the alphabet every day during the month of April, with Sundays off for good behaviour. We start with the letter A on Monday April 1st, and whether you go with a theme or freestyle is up to you, but your post must match the letter of the alphabet for that day.

Why not check it out for yourself here

I doubt I'll be pre-writing in advance as I blog for the exercise of writing, before I work on my manuscript, I have however roughed out a list of titles for each letter of the alphabet.

Some bloggers do write all their posts in advance, and this does get rid of the stress of writing each and every day, and also frees you up to visit other blogs taking part in the challenge. I'm going to visit as many as I can each day, time permitting, but one thing I won't be doing this year, is feeling guilty about not getting around them all! There are well over a thousand already signed up! This is a massive challenge, and its a great experience for everyone with a blog to have a go...

And now because its Friday, I'm sharing my favourite tune of the week with you. Dean Martin sings  That's Amore. Have a good weekend folks.

  1. Well done on signing up. I've signed up again for the second year. I am doing my posts in advance as much as I can because I found it quite stressful last year. Good luck,

  2. I'm participating again this year too. I'm pre-scheduling all but the last post though because I have SO MANY things going on in April I won't have time to write those blog posts. Doing my daily visits is going to be challenging enough. I aimed for 10 a day last year. This year I think I might go for 5 LOL

    1. I think five is a really sensible number, especially if you have a busy schedule. I'll be aiming for the same number myself. Anything above five will be a bonus.

  3. I'll keep an eye out for your A-Z. I'm entering 2 blogs and I'll be scheduling all my posts to post automatically each day. Like you mentioned, I want the time to exclusively visit other blogs.

    1. Blimey Duncan, two blogs for A to Z, thats awesome, is one going to feature your wonderful photography? I hope so...
Looks like a lot of us are going to be very busy.

    1. Oh Patsy you do...I bet if you put your mind to it, you could do it! It'll be fun, and might even make you more productive too. I find that is the really odd thing about it. I usually post somewhere around the three hundred word mark posts to the blog, then I want to write away like mad on my WIP.

  5. Good luck and enjoy it. I'm not taking part, but I'm looking forward to reading all the posts.

  6. Good for you signing up! I've been very tempted myself, but I really don't think I could keep up with it.

I've awarded you the Reality Blog Award - more details at my blog :-) x

    1. Hi Teresa, you never know what you can do until you try, why not look into the A to Z a bit further...lots of people schedule their posts. Writing them up in advance does give you time off when you need a day away too.

Thank you for the award, I'm off to collect it now. :-)

  8. Hello. Just thought I would stop by to give you a wave *wave* and wish you luck with this challenge. You're brave for not pre-writing your posts. I don't think I could do that; not with the dreaded writers' block creeping up at the most inconvenient of times!

    1. Hello Rebeccah, nice of you to drop into the cafe, and yes writers block is a bit of a odd thing. I tend to write through it. Any old rubbish goes down on the page and after a while I usually find my muse is back. Good luck yourself with the challenge, I'll be over for a visit.

    2. I'm good at the 'any old rubbish' bit, but then the fun starts with the red pen and the editing. I've been tweaking my posts for about a week now, but I think I'll leave them be and have a rest from it all for a while. I can imagine April will be quite a hectic month; what with posting and visiting and commenting and replying, so I should really rest myself beforehand!

  11. I'm also taking the challenge for the 2nd time and doing as much as I can before it starts. My project is on the SNC Quarter Notes blog, but I'm a writer, too. Good luck!

  12. Hi Maria

This is my first year. I'm getting increasingly worried. It's likely I'll post as I go because my theme is my status for the day but I want to relate it to my writing journey. Writing a post before working on your novel seems a good way to go. Makes for a good challenge. I'll probably write all day and read other blogs all night! Will certainly look out for yours posts. Good Luck - what am I a saying, you're an expert now!

    1. Hi Fran, don't fret, you'll be just fine. Keep calm, and enjoy the journey. Don't know about being an expert, more like a little crazy.

My tip, write the posts as early as you can get them done in the day. Set a reasonable target for blog visits, I know I can't do more than five a day. I'd love to visit them all but its a full-time job, and I already have one of those... ;-0

      Have fun!

  13. Hi Maria.
I'm popping in via the A to Z challenge blog.
This will be my 3rd challenge and my posts will be pre-written. I don't think I'd be able to wing it, that would be far too stressful!
    Nice to meet you.

    1. Hello Michelle,

I may have to write one or two as I have just been informed I'll be away on business for a week of the challenge. Gulp!

  14. I decided to join in on the fun again as well. It makes me feel better knowing that I am not the only one that will not be pre-writing my posts.
