Goal List Week Commencing 25th August 2013

Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire - Maria A Smith

Anyone else flabbergasted we've reached the August Bank holiday weekend? I don't want summer to end, I'm not ready! I've had some great days out this year. Lovely walks, took loads of pictures, written lots, socialised with friends and family and just thouroughly enjoyed the whole season. September looms, and the schools around here resume in a matter of days. Its going to be Autumn before we know it!

Time is precious people.

In the last week, I've been swamped with real life stuff, but also managed time for walking, writing and socialising too! Admittedly, the writing was my last blog post, and a 200 word flash fiction piece, had hoped for more on the novel, but I'm happy. Still a bit behind schedule, but intend to catch up this week. It seems a shame not to make the most of the weekend weather.

The week ahead, I'll be...

  • Going to the cinema to see a selection of short films
  • Walking around the streets where I live
  • Editing the novel with my red pen
  • Writing a blog post on ?
  • Creating some flash fiction based on a song title
  • Entering a writing competition, coz its time I pulled my finger out!
  • Doing my best to be nice to people
No advances on that list are planned except perhaps,
  • Eating cake
  • Listening to some music to set my soul on fire!

So tell me, what have you been up to? What plans are afoot?

  1. What a beautiful photo! I'm like you, I'm shocked that it's the end of August already. Although I find myself really looking forward to Autumn :)

I'm trying to balance the novel and the short story. I finished my novel last week so this week I've been staring at a document that will (hopefully) become the synopsis. That is my goal this week, learning that balancing act between working on the novel and writing those short stories! (And remembering to write down ideas when I have them instead of forgetting and going to sleep...) Good luck! :)

    1. Good luck with the synopsis, and thank you for your kind comments about my picture. I do love photography, I definitely want to get out with my camera when the trees begin to change.

  3. I've had a writing hiatus in respect of my novel. However I have managed to write some articles and blog posts. This week I'll be editing and submitting those articles and returning to my novel. I have a couple of new blog ideas to try and want to begin work on some speeches; I've been invited to 2 readings scheduled for October and need to formulate my themes for each, as they are distinctively different events. Just a little bit to keep me busy! As a result, I shall need to include some cake and coffee time as a coping mechanism.

I wish you luck meeting your goals this week and trust you will also find time for cake. I admire your efforts walking and that's another goal of mine: more walking.

  4. Hope you have a great time, and enjoy all of these activities. We are at a halt at the moment, husband's illness making him totally immobile again, but have hopes to be out and about before the cold weather sets in.

  5. I can barely believe that it's already the end of August. I didn't even twig it until I realised it was Carnival. *sigh*

It makes me feel sad knowing that summer is almost over, but I've always really enjoyed Autumn. I'm hoping that the changing weather, colours and air will do something to pep-up my creativity a bit more. Not so I can do new stuff, but so I can finish existing stuff.

Cake... cake is such a great goal! I think this week I'm going to make that promise to myself. AT least one slice of cake somewhere. Maybe a slice of my favourite lemon drizzle, or a new one so I can do a fresh review. Maybe... :)

  6. Yes, I must also focus on finishing outstanding stuff too. I shall ask you if you managed to make time for cake next time I see you... :-)

  7. Hi Maria, I've been so wrapped up in my novel that I've neglected other stuff - not been blogging and several short stories I should be sending out but haven't. Keeping all the balls going is difficult - juggling is not my string point. Your goals look great. Hope the editing goes well.

    1. Hi Ruth, I think we are all constantly juggling stuff. You'll be back on the blog soon...and get those stories sent off! :-)

  8. The summer has disappeared too quickly. I'm thinking back to those lovely days when I was stuck inside grafting on a chapter. You can't live and write sometimes, so well done for casting yourself adrift of the pen and taking in some of the special weather this year and locations we have in this country. As always - superbly framed picture. So full of colour and life. One to warm up those grey winter days waiting for us.

  9. I don't want summer to end either. I don't like being cooped up over winter in the cold. The flowers really draw you into the photo. Good shot!
